The Author:
Previously Lloyd and Emmet reconvened in the Kitchen and talked about their mutual encounters with Jack Torrance. With Danny Torrance and Richard Hallorann safe in the kitchen, they learned of the gift the child possesses. With Wendy Torrance still out in the Hedge Maze, they both head out to look for her in case she is in need of help.
Bartender Ghost:
At about 2:40 pm, you open up the doors back to the dining hall. The tables are as they were before, and the bar off in the corner with my service bell is still set out for you to see, with no signs of activity or disturbance to the area. The sound of the blowing wind can be heard coming from outside against the windows.
Myster Emmet:
I look around closely, wondering if one of the windows was opened...
Bartender Ghost:
The curtains are closed over most of them, but none of them are swaying at the moment. They appear to all be closed.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
Are there any bullet holes in any of the walls, furniture, or does anything seem damaged?
Bartender Ghost:
There is no obvious damage like that to the objects in the dining hall.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I turn to Emmet. "So... shall we go outside?"
Myster Emmet:
“Yeah, we should probably get outside as fast as we can.” I looked for any direct exit outside from the dining hall, if there isn’t I go to the foyer.
Bartender Ghost:
In that case, you end up heading to the Foyer. It is then as you turn toward the entrance to the hotel that you both notice something down the hall to the East Wing. The door to E101, Mr. Hallorann's room you were at earlier is open. How do each of you proceed?
Myster Emmet:
“Richard said…that he had a rifle behind his door…right?” I cautiously get behind anything to make sure I’m not completely exposed.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Yes...", I whisper back. "That might have been taken...."
Bartender Ghost:
There is an eerie quiet in the hallway. No sounds of movement from the room, only the sound of the blowing winds from outside.
Myster Emmet:
I wield my lead pipe in front of my body, as I take steps closer…and closer… to E101. Making sure to take light steps….when I’m at the door I slowly crane my head slowly to see into the room.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I stay a couple of steps behind Emmet. Not immediately behind, but close enough.
Bartender Ghost:
Looking into the room, you again see the general layout of all the rooms. A central king-sized bed, a television, a radio, an open door to the bathroom, and of course the lovely portrait of the woman he has hanging on the wall. The door however has been damaged, something has broken the door open with a sign of damage to the area by the knob. Almost as though it has been kicked in. There is no sign of a person or creature here.
Myster Emmet:
I relax a little, but I keep advancing into the room to take a quick look into the bathroom just to make sure it’s empty, if someone comes out to surprise me I’m swinging my pipe!
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
As Emmet advances into the room, I make sure to open the door all the way until it won't move any further, expecting to encounter resistance, if someone is hiding behind the door. If there is no resistance, I will look behind the door, to check if the rifle is still there.
Bartender Ghost:
There is no resistance as Mr. Morgan-Jackson pushes the door open. Upon checking behind it, you find that the weapon is indeed missing. There is no apparent damage to the room here other than the door having been forced open.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Yeah... it was taken", I say quietly, but loudly enough for Emmet to hear. I wait for him to finish examining the bathroom.
Myster Emmet:
“Well, I think I know where it went.” I speculate as I enter the bathroom, looking around for anyone hiding.
Bartender Ghost:
The bathroom is also the same as the one you encountered in your room outside of a few personal effects belonging to Mr. Hallorann such as magazines. The curtain to the shower is already pulled open with nothing hiding in it.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
Is there enough space under the bed for someone to hide? And looking at the room, are there any other places that seem suitable as hiding spots?
Bartender Ghost:
There is indeed space for somebody to hide under the bed, no other spot seems feasible in the room. The sound of the cold wind can be heard against the window, and the open curtains reveal it to be snowing heavily out now.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
Is there a blanket on the bed that reaches down to the floor and thus covering the space underneath the bed, or would just bending down give me a pretty clear view of the space underneath?
Bartender Ghost:
Mr. Hallorann is an orderly fellow, he makes his bed everyday and so the covers are tucked neatly in. You would need to lower your head to the floor to see under it.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I kneel down on the floor, but not too close to the bed. I stay reasonably far away, so if there's a person underneath, they wouldn't be able to touch me if they stretched out their hand. Then I look underneath.
Myster Emmet:
I come out of the bathroom, I take a quick glance out the window to see if there was anything out of place through the blankets of white I presume.
Bartender Ghost:
Mr. Morgan-Jackson finds nothing of note under the bed. As for the window showing the outside, you can see that snow has piled up to about 6 inches now with no signs of stopping.
Myster Emmet:
"Shit...I really hope that Wendy isn't stuck out there." I mutter...
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Alright... this seems empty, so whoever stole the rifle isn't here anymore. Where to now?", I ask.
Myster Emmet:
"I think...going outside is our only option if we want to make sure Wendy is safe, but there's also the option of checking up on Jack...just to make sure." I pause a bit before continuing, "I don't think the wendigo would need a weapon like a rifle, so I think either Jack or...Wendy has it. Or someone else we haven't seen yet."
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I nod. "I think your earlier point was a good one. If we want to go out, we should do it now, before there's more snow." I look at my clothing and grimace. "Should we go and pick up our coats?"
Myster Emmet:
"Well...I left my coat in my room. And I don't think it's safe to go out without them, so I think we should go up and get them." I muse, before taking out the key ring I have. "At least I have the key."
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Alright, it's in the same wing at least, so should be quick... if we don't get ambushed by someone... or something..." I tighten my grip on the lead pipe and step outside carefully.
Myster Emmet:
I follow behind.
Bartender Ghost:
And so at about 2:45 pm you step out of room E101, its door failing to latch because of the broken lock. As if a random gunshot earlier wasn't concern enough, as you move out into the hall you hear the clear and obvious sounds of a growling dog now. Looking at it down the hall, it is a large St. Bernard, crouched with teeth bared ready to charge.
You are not logged in. - Cujo
You are not logged in. - Rabid Cujo
The dog is about 3 feet tall and has blood on him, a clear bleeding wound from his chest. It looks like the wound should have been fatal.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
How close are we to a staircase? I assume calling an elevator would take too long.
Myster Emmet:
"Oh no....shit. Cujo?" I mumble, before readying my lead pipe in front of me in a defensive stance as I slowly backed away while facing Cujo.
Bartender Ghost:
The staircase isn't too far away, you could run to it and maybe outpace the rabid dog. He continues to growl, eyes glaring with no hint of kindness in them.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I start moving toward the staircase, making sure to seem nonchalant and unfazed, while continuing to clutch the pipe. "Apparently, he's gotten quite real too", I say, as if I'm talking about the weather. And I guess we now know who that shot was for, I think, but don't say it out loud, unsure if the dog may be able to understand English.
Myster Emmet:
"Uhuh, I wonder how I couldn't see him before...." I say joyfully, trying to keep any sense of panic out of my voice as I get closer and closer to the stairs.......
Bartender Ghost:
As you both start to move toward the stairs, Cujo snarls and charges at you frothing at the mouth. You could make it into the staircase before he gets to you if you desired.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I of course run as fast as I can.
Myster Emmet:
I decide to bite the bullet and throw away the lead pipe I was holding right at the charging Cujo to slow him down as I turn and run as fast as I can up the stairs, with no lead pipe slowing me down.
Bartender Ghost:
With Mr. Emmet tossing the object forward, while Mr. Morgan makes a run for the stairs, the dog jumps back only slightly as the pipe lands on the distinguished and somewhat bloody carpet. The dog is actively bleeding. Free from the heavy pipe, Mr. Emmet makes it into the stairway as well, and you both are able to secure the door while Cujo chases after you. An unnaturally strong force plows against it, but for now, it seems to be holding.
Myster Emmet:
"Hahhh, that was close." I sigh and scratch the back of my neck while nervously looking at the door.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Yeah, even if we had a gun, I doubt it would help here", I say, trying to conceal the panic in my voice, as I rush up the stairs.
Myster Emmet:
I follow after him to make sure I don't fall behind.
Bartender Ghost:
Moving up the stairs you notice something, a clear blood trail. It's not a lot of blood, but something... has used this path before you. You two can make it to the second or even third floor of the east wing safely at the moment.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
Does it look like too little blood to be coming from Cujo?
Bartender Ghost: Indeed.
This trail seems to have been from a lighter wound than the gaping hole in the dog's chest.
Myster Emmet:
I make my way up to the second floor, does the blood trail end here or go on?
Bartender Ghost:
Indeed it does Mr. Emmet. It continues out of the door into the hall, though the door to the stairwell is closed.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I look at Emmet and whisper. "Perhaps Jack got injured..."
Myster Emmet:
"That, or Wendy decided to have a go with Cujo the rabid dog." I open the door for the hallway and look into it, wondering where the blood trail leads.
Bartender Ghost:
The blood trail leads out of the hallway and across the hall to the first of the doors, room E201.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I nod. That makes sense.... I think.
Myster Emmet:
"Huh, isn't that...?" I mumble as I walk over to E201's door and take out my key ring to locate E201's key, when I do I insert it into the lock and unlock it! I slowly open the door....
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I hiss quietly. "Emmet! What are you doing? We came here to get our coats and go outside!"
Myster Emmet:
I stop and turn to Lloyd, "Well, what if someone is in there and is bleeding out as we speak?!" I hiss back.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I start to retort 'Well, that's none of our business', but then catch myself... "Ugh..... fine! But... be careful."
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Because they may be hostile...."
Myster Emmet:
I take his words to heart, I turn the doorknob slowly...and open the door just a crack. I lean over and take a look inside..!
Bartender Ghost:
You pull out the master key for this floor, Key E2, and it slides into the door without a problem. As you twist the knob, it becomes clear the door wasn't actually locked like when you were here before Mr. Emmet. The door opens slowly revealing itself to you through that crack.
Bartender Ghost:
Inside is the room you saw before, with a single king-sized bed, radio, and television. It is currently displaying some sort of children's show featuring a juggling clown and twin girls sawing a box in half. There is no sign of a person here, but on the bed is a discarded flannel shirt you saw Jack wearing before, the left sleeve is damaged and bloody. Other than that, the room is as you remember it.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
As Emmet is looking through the crack, I keep watch to make sure no one is coming down the hallway.
Myster Emmet:
I open the door a bit more, enough so that I'm able to slip through to go into the room. I step carefully, but my first instinct is to drop down to my knees and look down below the bed. Wondering if the wooden baseball bat from before is still there.
Bartender Ghost:
There is nothing hiding for you in the room this time Mr. Emmet. The baseball bat is indeed still there.
Myster Emmet:
"Good, it's still here." I grab a hold of the bat and pull it out into the light. I stand up and fully inspect the bat, is there anything suspicious about it? Like any cracks or blood?
Bartender Ghost:
It seems remarkably unused in fact, the glossy finish of the wood has only a few signs of use. There are no signs of blood on it.
Myster Emmet:
I turn to the bathroom, now wielding the baseball bat in front of me as I take a few steps towards it. Is the bathroom door closed?
Bartender Ghost:
It is open, however, the blood from Danny's clothes is now visible on the floor from when he changed earlier.
Myster Emmet:
I walk into the bathroom, looking around to see if Jack or anyone else is in here!
Bartender Ghost:
The bathroom is empty. The sounds of the television are the only sounds that can be heard.
Myster Emmet:
"Lloyd, there's no one here. It's safe to come in!" I yell out for LLoyd to hear me as I come out of the bathroom.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Why would we wanna come in though?", I say, trying to keep my voice as quiet as possible, but still audible for Emmet. "If there's no one there, let's just leave, get out coats and get out."
Myster Emmet:
"Well, I just thought..." I mumble, but I sigh and leave the room to meet Lloyd. "Okay, let's get our coats."
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"But it's good you got that bat, though. How did you know where to look? You seemed to go for it right away."
Myster Emmet:
"Oh, well....I found it earlier when I was waiting for Danny to change clothes." I scratched my neck, "Btw, what did you discuss with Jack? He appears to have been in the room but...not anymore." I point back to the room I exited from.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I start walking toward our room, as I reply. "He mentioned he was distrustful of Richard, because he thought Richard was interested in Wendy. He also said that my name is interesting. I asked him if it's because I share it with the bartender, and then he poked me in the chest. As if to try and see if I am real. But then said that he just thought it was a rare name. I found that a bit unusual... But I suspect he might have been able to interact with the bartender even before this whole thing started. Other than that...", I try to think. "Nothing too important comes to mind right now... He did mention that you can sometimes see and hear things in this hotel."
Myster Emmet:
"That's interesting. Apparently, Jack knows Danny can see these things too, but he discourages anyone from 'playing along'." I use air quotes as we move towards the destination, "Also....maybe the Wendigo...." I hesitate for a minute before continuing. "Maybe the Wendigo...possessed someone in order to come inside?"
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Can Wendigos even do that?"
Myster Emmet:
"Well, it's mentioned in the legends that Wendigos usually possess and infuse people with cannibalistic desires...though I have no idea if that's what is happening now."
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"I see... well, who knows if they are accurate... Maybe he was just able to come in because the ghosts are getting more powerful and more "physical" now.... But maybe it was the way you say...."
Bartender Ghost:
Traveling down the hall, strong winds of the storm can be heard blowing outside. The hotel is still and quiet as you reach your doors of E221 and E223 at just about 3:00 pm.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I look down the hall both ways, as I wait for Emmet to unlock the door.
Bartender Ghost:
There is nothing out of the ordinary. Looking ahead you can see a window at the end of the hall that shows the falling snow outside. Behind you, you can see the middle ground where the two wings meet with the elevators off to the side.
Myster Emmet:
I pull out my key ring, take the key for room E223, and unlock the door, and open it gently until I can see fully into the room!
Bartender Ghost:
The door opens without incident. You can see where you discarded your clothing earlier Mr. Emmet, there is some visible blood on the carpet in that spot now.
Myster Emmet:
I go ahead and set the bat down onto the bed as I quickly pick up my discarded trenchcoat and slip it on gracefully! "Ahhh, missed you so much." I resist the urge to hug myself in order to pick up the bat once more.
Bartender Ghost:
As you might be expecting, Mr. Emmet, your coat carries stains of blood now, much as the clothing you were recently wearing.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I slip into the room after Emmet, and grab my jacket, which was placed on the back of one of the chairs. I raise my eyebrow a bit at Emmet talking to his coat, but don't comment on it. I pull up the zipper, then clutch the lead pipe again, and get out of the room. "OK, let's move."
Myster Emmet:
I follow behind Lloyd, careful to not forget to close the door behind me.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
"Also, lock it", I whisper.
Myster Emmet:
I go ahead and lock the door with the key.
Bartender Ghost:
Moving down the hall toward the stairway, just around the corner, you hear the sounds of the elevator starting to move. Its sounds stick out due to the quiet atmosphere of the hotel. At the east stairwell, you have the means to reach the 3rd or 1st floor.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
Since we are headed out, it makes sense to go downstairs. I don't think we should wait for the elevator and whoever might be inside it.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I don't say anything, but I just open the door to the staircase, and first look cautiously, to see if there's someone there.
Bartender Ghost:
The stairway is clear with no sign of any people, ghosts, canines, or anything else in it.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I look to Emmet, to see if he's following, and if he is, I will start descending.
Myster Emmet:
I follow behind Lloyd, Making sure that I look behind me from time to time, just to appease the paranoid thoughts that I'm being followed to rest.
Bartender Ghost:
You both successfully arrive at the bottom of the stairwell at the bottom floor, the place you entered earlier with your rather ferocious encounter. Just beyond the stairwell, beside Mr. Hallorann's room, would be the main entrances to the hotel. How do you proceed?
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I open the door slightly, and peek through.
Bartender Ghost:
The hallway is still, quiet, with traces of blood on the carpet. Cujo no longer seems to be here.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I slip into the hallway and start walking toward the main entrance, signaling to Emmet to follow.
Myster Emmet:
I follow behind, bat held steady as I sneakily slip behind Lloyd at the main entrance. I brace myself for an onslaught of cold air.
Bartender Ghost:
Making it to the main door, you can hear the howling wind outside. It would seem that the weather continues to get worse. You know from the blueprint, the hedge maze isn't far from the main entrance.
Lloyd Morgan-Jackson:
I open the main door, and step outside.
Myster Emmet:
I follow behind, shielding my face with my arm against the snow.

So happy you are enjoying it Mr. Cub. Perhaps sometime I'll have to bring Cujo into the barroom to play with the other animals around.
