Cyber Boxing/Kickboxing Clinic
To have a great cyber boxing/kick boxing match requires specificity. For example, someone might say “I throw a right punch at your face!”…What is wrong with this post? Let’s dissect it:
1. Be specific about the target – are you aiming the centre of your fist at the chin, cheek, mouth, nose, jaw, right or left eye, temple? The body is even bigger, where are you targeting? Chest, solar plexus, side ribs, liver, lower floating ribs, abs etc?
2. So what kind of punch are you throwing? A right cross (a straight punch that crosses the midline of the body), a straight (similar to a cross but does not cross over the midline)?, a hook? An uppercut? And overhand? Same is true for left hand punches, except a straight punch with the left is called a jab.
3. Same is true for kicks, be specific of target site and type of kick, e.g. front push kick, roundhouse kick, spinning back kick, axe kick etc…..and be specific which leg you are using.
Defence:
The specificity that you provide on the attack, allows your opponent to defend, react, and counterpunch more realistically.
Be specific on how you defended against the punch or how you could not avoid the punch. There are many ways to defend, you can parry a straight punch, block it with your gloves, slip the punch by head movements, leaning away from the punch, taking the punch by rolling your shoulder into it, mitigate the effect by rolling with the punch etc.
Pay attention to the attack you are receiving, and to the last position of your gloves….If your last attack was a right hook into your opponent’s rib cage, then for example, a logical counter punch from them would be a left hook going over your right, aimed at your jaw. Entiendes?
There many online instructional videos that you can watch to improve your boxing skills, which are well worth having a look.

That's great advice for more than just boxing/kickboxing. Thanks for posting this.

Yes, thank you! It applies to MMA, muay thai, and it also applies to wrestling, describing your movements so your opponent can understand what you are doing, and they can realistically counter is what it is all about....
